FreeFileSync for MAC

Free folder sync and backup app for Mac that copies only what changed. For private use; companies need the paid Business Edition.

FreeFileSync Overview

FreeFileSync is a folder comparison and synchronization app that creates and manages backup copies of your important files. Instead of copying every file every time, it finds the differences between a source and a target folder and transfers only the minimum amount of data needed. The basic steps are simple: choose the left and right folders, compare them, select the sync settings and press Synchronize.

It works with local drives and network shares, and it can sync with Google Drive and over FTP, FTPS and SFTP, with no artificial limit on the number of files. It detects moved and renamed files, can keep a history of deleted and updated files, and can compare files by content. The source code is under the GPL 3.0, but be aware of the terms of use: the standard and Donation editions are for private use only, and commercial, government and other non-private use requires buying the Business Edition. The Donation Edition adds a few bonus features, such as an auto-updater and parallel file copying, for people who donate. The installer and the app have no ads. Version 14.13 works around a macOS SMB driver problem with modification times. The FAQ lists macOS 10.12 through macOS 27 as supported, and the changelog records a native ARM64 build for Apple Silicon.
